CAST is a simulation software used to calculate the acquisition and downlink capabilities of Sentinel constellation.
CAST provides statistics about number of passes, number of passes effectively used for downlink, percentage of downlink usage and possible rejections of requested observations due to memory or timeliness issues.
CAST allows:
Full configuration of satellites
With one or more payloads, different working modes and downlink characteristics.
The default configuration is up to date with the current Copernicus operational environment (Sentinel-1A, Sentinel-2A, Sentinel-2B, Sentinel-3A, Sentinel-3B, Sentinel-5P)
Full configuration of Ground Stations
Including the number of available antennas.
The default configuration is up to date with the current Copernicus operational environment (Svalbard, Matera, Maspalomas, Inuvik, Neustrelitz.)
Support for EDRS transponder
Defining the existing EDRS Geo Satellites and their position.
EDRS-A and EDRS-C are already configured by default.
After configuring a set of Satellites and a set of Ground Stations and EDRS transponders, CAST calculates a complete observation plan for the satellites and a corresponding downlink plan over the stations, allowing the user to check if the scenario is feasible.
